A dictionary for everything you can't explain on the dance floor
TheDanceDefinition takes the small truths of the social dance world – the danced-through night, “Festival Monday”, that one second of connection – and casts them in the shape of a dictionary entry.
The concept
Every design is built like an entry in a dictionary: a term, the phonetic transcription, the part of speech and a definition every dancer recognises instantly. Sometimes honest, sometimes tongue-in-cheek – always from the scene, for the scene.
We sort the terms by the styles they live in: Bachata, Salsa, Urban Kiz, Brazilian Zouk, and everything that belongs to social dance culture in general. A term can live in several worlds – “Syncopation” belongs to Urban Kiz just as much as to the general dance vocabulary.
Design-first, not product-first
Here the design comes first, not the item. You look for the entry that fits you – and only then decide whether it ends up on a t-shirt, hoodie, mug or tote bag. Every design comes in a light and a dark version.
How ordering works
You find the word and pick the product here on TheDanceDefinition. The product then opens in our Spreadshop, where you choose colour and size and place the order – Spreadshirt (sprd.net AG) handles payment, printing and shipping. That means established print-on-demand quality and vetted payment methods, and no second shop to keep in step with the first.
